What is Parkinson's Disease?
Parkinson's Disease is a motor system disorder that results from loss of dopamine-producing cells in the brain.
There are four primary symptoms that may present including:
1) Tremors - trembling often noted in the hands, arms, legs, jaw, and face
2) Bradykinesia - slowness of movement
3) Rigidity - stiffness in the limbs and trunk
4) Decreased balance and coordination
Parkinson's usually affects individuals over 50 years old, and symptoms often start out subtly. As the symptoms progress, individuals may notice greater difficulty performing daily activities including walking, talking, balancing, swallowing, chewing, and speaking.
